Skinnyish Homemade Caramel Apples

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package (11 oz) bag caramels, I used individually wrapped Kraft brand
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 8 smaller apples, I used granny smith, see shopping tips
  • 8 popsicle sticks, see shopping tips
  • Optional Toppings, you can easily dunk them in your favorite toppings such as chopped nuts or chopped chocolate

Instructions
 

  • Rinse apples, remove the stems, dry well with a paper towel and refrigerate until you’re ready completely chilled. See prep tips below
  •  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foli, Coat with nonstick spray
  • Unwrap all the caramels and place them in a microwaveable bowl. Add water. Microwave for 2 minutes, stir well. Depending on your microwave you may need to zap it again at 20-second intervals until melted.
  • Dunk each apple in melted caramel. Roll them around to cover half the apples. Allow the excess caramel to drain back into the bowl. Quickly dunk and roll the apple in your topping of choice, if desired.  Set each dipped apple on the parchment paper.
  • Refrigerate at least 15 minutes to allow the topping to harden. You can refrigerate them longer. Before serving, remove from the refrigerator at least 15 minutes.
  • You can easily cut this recipe in half or into quarters. Fro 4 apples use ½ of bag of caramels and for 2 apples, only use ¼ of the bag. The simple way to do this is open the bag and count all the caramels. Use half or ¼ of the bag of caramels.
